Daihatsu Copen by Liberty Walk: A Tuned Send-Off for the Kei Roadster

The Daihatsu Copen has unexpectedly found itself back in the spotlight, not because of a refresh, but thanks to a Liberty Walk tuning project. The model is set to be discontinued in summer 2026, yet interest in it is only growing.

Japanese tuner Liberty Walk has revealed its take on the compact roadster, featuring its signature wide body kit. The package includes bolt-on fender flares, a new hood, a front splitter, a rear diffuser, and a large rear wing. It also gets a sportier suspension, different wheels, and racing-style Recaro seats. Even on such a small car, the result looks aggressively muscular and unmistakably Liberty Walk.

For context, the Copen itself is an ultra-compact kei car, just 3.4 meters long and weighing around 850 kg. Under the hood is a 0.66-liter turbocharged engine producing 63 hp, which propels it to 100 km/h in roughly 12 seconds. It's not about speed; it's about lightness and handling. That's exactly why a project like this adds emotion without boosting power.

The story of the model doesn't end here. Daihatsu has plans for a third generation, and it could be a radical departure. According to rumors, power will more than double, to around 150 hp, and the car may ride on a new platform shared with future Toyota and Suzuki models.

The Copen is retiring as a kei car, but it's returning as an idea, and in the next generation, it could become a completely different vehicle.
