KGM Torres Hybrid arrives in Australia with 150 kW, 5.4 l/100 km and richer tech

South Korean brand KGM, formerly known as SsangYong, has introduced its first hybrid crossover to the Australian market — the Torres Hybrid. The newcomer builds on the familiar petrol version but arrives with more advanced equipment and a fresh powertrain. The range comprises two trims: the K30 from 45,000 dollars and the K40 at 48,000. It is notably pricier than the regular Torres, yet the brand offsets the premium with added tech and a richer spread of features.

The hybrid setup pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 150 kW. Average fuel consumption is rated at 5.4 l/100 km, positioning the model against the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. The system follows a layout familiar from Chery and Honda: at low speeds the electric motor does the work, while on the highway the combustion engine steps in.

The features align with current class expectations: 12.3-inch digital displays, climate control, adaptive cruise control, and LED lighting. The K40 adds larger wheels, a power tailgate, and an expanded safety package. Cargo capacity remains unchanged at up to 1,526 litres with the seats folded.
