Next-Generation BMW 7 Series Protection Armored Sedan Debuts in 2027

BMW is putting the finishing touches on its next-generation 7 Series Protection, with the armored sedan now in final development and expected to debut in 2027.

While the standard 7 Series has been given a styling refresh, the protected version sticks to a deliberately discreet appearance—the core of the concept. The car must stay inconspicuous even though it can withstand gunfire and explosive attacks.

The new model will be certified to VR9, with an optional upgrade to VPAM10, one of the highest civilian protection levels. Standard features include a self-sealing fuel tank, heated armored glass, an intercom system, and emergency exit capability through all doors. Also on the list are a fresh-air ventilation system, automatic fire suppression, reinforced run-flat tires, and special warning lights and sirens. Buyers who need more can add extra equipment such as two-way radios and additional strobe lights.

That protection adds serious weight: the previous combustion version tipped the scales at nearly four tons, and the electric i7 Protection was close to five. For the new car, the gasoline variant is expected to use a V8 in M Performance tune, replacing the old 760i engine.

BMW has a clear view of this market. Armored vehicles see steady demand from government agencies and wealthy private clients. The blend of low-key looks and no-compromise protection keeps the 7 Series among the segment’s benchmarks.
