Mitsubishi ends European sales of the Colt as demand shifts to SUVs
Mitsubishi will end European sales of the Colt by the end of 2025. The current generation, introduced in 2023, was derived from the fifth-generation Renault Clio and differed mainly in its reworked front end. With the sixth-gen Clio arriving and its predecessor leaving production, Mitsubishi does not plan to launch a new Colt on the updated platform. Given the Colt’s close kinship with the outgoing Clio, stepping away from another badge swap looks like a pragmatic move.
The decision is attributed to weak demand and a clear shift toward SUVs. Earlier in 2025, Mitsubishi discontinued the compact Space Star. The company is now leaning into crossovers, reinforcing its European presence through the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi alliance. Recent launches—the Grandis and Eclipse Cross, described as twins of the Renault Symbioz and Scenic E-Tech Electric—underscore the push to broaden the SUV range. It’s a familiar industry calculus: follow demand and streamline low-volume entries.
In Europe, the Colt starts at 19,500 euros and is also offered as a 145-hp Full Hybrid, mirroring the fifth-generation Clio’s setup. Its departure signals a reallocation of resources toward segments where demand continues to grow—momentum that small hatchbacks increasingly struggle to counter.
