Audi Is Germany's Most Popular Car Brand in 2026 YouGov Study

Audi has come out on top in the YouGov Automotive Rankings Germany 2026, making it the most popular car brand in the country. The brand scored 26.3 points, edging out BMW at 25.2 and Mercedes-Benz at 24.8.

Volkswagen, Toyota, Skoda, Volvo, Porsche, Hyundai and Opel complete the top ten. The study draws on YouGov BrandIndex data from the period between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.

A breakdown by age paints a varied picture. Generation Z gives Audi a commanding 33.6 points—the highest score any brand received from any age group. Audi also leads among Millennials and Generation X. Older buyers, however, favor Mercedes-Benz, which takes the lead with 25.4 points, followed by BMW and Audi.

The most impressive image gains came from BYD. The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer jumped by two points, climbing from minus 0.5 to 1.5. Toyota, Hyundai, Dacia and Audi also placed in the top five for improvement. Importantly, the study does not rank vehicles themselves; it focuses solely on how German consumers perceive the brands.
