Opel Corsa GSE: Sporty electric hatch with 281 hp and LSD

Opel has brought back a sporty version of the Corsa, but this time it's electric. The new Corsa GSE is a 281 hp hot hatch that effectively continues the GSi and OPC lineage in the battery era.

Under the skin, the Corsa GSE is closely related to the Peugeot E-208 GTi and Lancia Ypsilon HF. All three ride on Stellantis's Perfo-eCMP platform and will be produced at the Figueruelas plant near Zaragoza. As for the current sixth-gen Corsa, this launch likely represents its last hurrah—a replacement is already in the works, with a market debut anticipated around 2028.

Externally, the GSE stands apart from the standard Corsa with more than just badges. It features a revised front bumper, larger side air intakes, wider wheel arches, 18-inch wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in 215/40 R18. The brake calipers now display a GSE logo — a subtle touch that reinforces the model's identity.

Inside, Opel drew inspiration from the first Corsa GSi. The sports seats feature integrated head restraints and black-gray-yellow checkered upholstery. Yellow accents also appear on the seat belts. The steering wheel, seat inserts, and door panels are trimmed in Alcantara, while the pedals are aluminum. A 10-inch multimedia screen can display acceleration and g-force data.

Under the bonnet, the electric motor delivers 281 hp and 345 Nm of torque. The sprint to 100 km/h takes 5.5 seconds, and top speed is 180 km/h. The battery is the same unit found in other Corsa Electric models: 54 kWh gross, with 51 kWh usable. Opel hasn't yet disclosed the driving range, but given the figures for the related Lancia and Peugeot, expect something in the neighborhood of 350–370 km on the WLTP cycle.

To handle the power without corrupting the front axle, the Corsa GSE employs a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential. The axles, anti-roll bars, hydraulic dampers, steering, and pedal responses have also been retuned. Braking is handled by four-piston calipers. There are three driving modes: Eco caps the top speed at 150 km/h, Normal cuts output to 231 hp, and Sport unleashes the full potential.

The Corsa GSE dives into a segment already populated by the Alpine A290, CUPRA Raval VZ, MINI Cooper JCW E, and the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI. Opel's clear advantage is that this isn't just a quick daily EV—it's a small front-drive hatch with a genuine limited-slip differential. For driving enthusiasts, that matters more than yet another sport badge on the tailgate.
