Skoda Epiq: New Affordable Electric Crossover with Up to 267 Miles Range
Skoda is gearing up to unveil its most important electric crossover for the mass market: the Epiq. The model is set to debut on May 19, and prototypes have already been spotted undergoing final testing at the Nürburgring. This time, photographers also got a look inside the cabin.
The standout interior feature is a 13-inch multimedia screen. It's joined by a compact 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, slim ventilation vents, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, and eco-friendly materials. For a compact EV, trunk space is crucial, and the claimed volume with the seats folded is 1,344 liters.
One prototype was seen with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, sparking speculation about a Sportline or even RS variant. However, for Skoda's electric cars, these paddles typically control regeneration rather than indicating a performance version. Still, a sporty steering wheel with perforated leather hints that a more aggressive trim could join the lineup.
Skoda has confirmed three trims so far: the Epiq 35, 45, and 55. The base Epiq 35 comes with a 38.5 kWh battery and a 114 hp front electric motor, offering a range of around 315 km (196 miles) and a 0-100 km/h time of 11 seconds. The mid-range Epiq 45 keeps the same battery but ups power to 133 hp, cutting the sprint to 9.8 seconds while maintaining the range.
The range-topping Epiq 55 looks most appealing. It packs a 55 kWh battery, a 208 hp motor, and a range of up to 267 miles (about 430 km). The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 7.4 seconds – impressively brisk for a compact crossover positioned as an affordable option.
The expected starting price is around €26,000. That's what makes the Epiq so important: Skoda doesn't need another expensive flagship EV, but a compact crossover that can compete in the budget segment. If it hits that price point, the Epiq will be a key indicator of whether mainstream buyers are ready to go electric without significant cost premiums.
