The new-generation Toyota 4Runner quickly became one of the brand's hottest models in the US, and tuning shops are already jumping on the opportunity. Westcott Designs from Phoenix has revealed the Shadow version based on the 2026 4Runner TRD Pro — an almost all-black SUV with a focus on both looks and off-road practicality.

In the first quarter of 2026, US sales of the Toyota 4Runner surged 294%, from roughly 8,000 units a year earlier to over 33,000. For a model fresh off a generational change, that's a strong start, especially given that Toyota Motor North America's overall sales barely shifted.

Westcott Designs took a black 4Runner TRD Pro and added its own package: a lift kit, an expedition roof rack, and rock sliders. These aren't just cosmetic—the lift improves approach and departure angles, the roof rack adds cargo capacity, and the sliders protect the rocker panels on rocks and ruts.

On the outside, the Shadow is nearly devoid of bright accents. Black wheels, black bodywork, dark off-road gear, additional LED lights, and molle panels create the look of a vehicle that isn't trying to be a mall-crawler special edition. The only visible color accents are the red trim pieces, a reminder of its TRD Pro origins.

The 4Runner's success clearly explains why tuners are interested. Toyota kept the model's reputation as a rugged body-on-frame SUV but made it more modern and conspicuous. For buyers in this segment, it's not just about screens and comfort—it's about the ability to lift it, bolt on gear, and turn it into a personal project without hesitation.

The Shadow looks like exactly that kind of project: not a radical overhaul, but a ready-made recipe for those who want their 4Runner to look tougher and be more capable on the trail. Sometimes the whole point of off-road customization is for the vehicle to look the part before it even leaves the pavement.
