Volkswagen ID. ERA preview: hybrid with 1,000 km range and autonomous driving
At an event in Guangzhou, Volkswagen unveiled a fresh lineup of alternative‑energy vehicles dubbed ID.ERA.
The spotlight fell on the Volkswagen ID. ERA, a clear preview of a forthcoming ninth‑generation production model. Series production is slated to begin in April next year.
The Volkswagen ID. ERA features a hybrid powertrain providing a range of more than 1,000 km, paired with an advanced driver‑assistance suite. The system is designed to let the car operate autonomously on highways and in urban settings, using navigation to move between points without driver involvement—if this carries over to the production model, it is likely to become the headline technology.
Visually, the new Volkswagen ID. ERA leans into a forward‑looking aesthetic: a closed‑off grille, LED outlining and an illuminated Volkswagen emblem at the center give it a modern, high‑tech face, while vertically stacked matrix headlights at the corners sharpen the expression. The profile pairs a tall body and pronounced side surfacing with a coupe‑like roofline, adding a hint of dynamism. At the rear, bright taillamps and a red backlit brand badge complete a cohesive, contemporary look.
