Ford Motor has filed a patent for a new system to improve vehicle aerodynamics, potentially for use in future brand pickups.

Ford has been investing heavily in aerodynamic efficiency lately. The patent proposes installing a set of so-called "fins" along the sides of the body and at the rear of the cab.

When the vehicle reaches a certain speed or the system deems it necessary, these fins extend to smooth airflow over the body, effectively creating a fastback shape that visually mimics the rear of the Tesla Cybertruck.

The innovation has one clear goal: improving pickup truck aerodynamics, boosting efficiency by either cutting fuel consumption or extending battery range.
