Volvo EM90: specs, range and features of the electric minivan
The Volvo EM90 is not a clean‑sheet Swedish creation. It is essentially a reworked Zeekr 009 minivan: that model, built on Geely Holding’s SEA modular platform, was unveiled a year ago and is already on sale in China. It’s a calculated rebadge rather than a ground‑up project, but with a distinct Scandinavian twist.
The EM90 shares its body and the same 3,205‑mm wheelbase with the Zeekr, differing mainly in the front and rear design. Signature Thor’s Hammer headlights and vertical taillamps bring it in line with Volvo’s own visual language. Overall dimensions are virtually unchanged at 5,206 mm in length, 2,024 mm in width, and 1,859 mm in height. All door apertures carry over, as does the geometry of the roof’s glass sections. The drag coefficient remains 0.27, matching the donor car. The new face and tail help it read as a Volvo at a glance, despite the familiar silhouette.
The cabin follows the same playbook. The EM90 receives its own dashboard, steering wheel, and trim, while the instrument display loses its hood. Even so, the overall architecture and the placement of key elements are inherited from the Zeekr. The infotainment graphics on the 15.4‑inch screen have been reworked to fit Volvo’s brand identity. It feels familiar if you’ve sat in a recent Zeekr, yet the Volvo cues tidy up the ambiance.
Equipment includes air suspension, adaptive cruise control, and the beginnings of an automated driving suite. The EM90 is rear‑wheel drive only, with a single electric motor rated at 272 hp and 343 Nm, paired with a 116‑kWh base battery. The setup hints at a comfort‑first brief rather than outright performance.
Top speed, as with all modern Volvos, is capped at 180 km/h. According to the stated figures, the 2,763‑kg minivan can cover 738 km on a single charge under the Chinese CLTC cycle.
