Volvo to Deploy Aptiv Gen 8 Radar from 2028
Volvo Cars has inked a deal with Aptiv to equip future models with the Gen 8 radar platform. The first Volvos featuring this technology are expected on the road from 2028.
The Gen 8 radar will be integrated into the ADAS driver assistance systems. Designed for high-precision object detection, the platform is built to work alongside artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. Aptiv says its proprietary antenna and silicon architecture enhance recognition accuracy, particularly in challenging conditions.
The system was developed for multi-sensor data fusion, combining with cameras and other perception hardware to improve situational awareness. Compared to the previous generation, Gen 8 delivers sharper object detection and better angular resolution.
The radar is also scalable across different vehicle segments and markets. Unlike many announcements about new cars arriving in 2026, Volvo's rollout of this technology is planned for 2028.
