Volvo Car Japan has introduced a special edition of the XC40 called the Ultra B4 AWD Selection. Priced at 6,490,000 yen (roughly $41,118 at current rates), it's not a new model but a generously equipped version of the compact SUV that remains Volvo's best-seller in Japan.

The concept is straightforward: give buyers near-maximum equipment without the hassle of option lists. This edition replaces the previous XC40 Ultra B4 AWD and remains the only all-wheel-drive variant in the lineup. Standard features include leather seats, an Orrefors crystal gear selector, a premium Harman Kardon sound system, and 19-inch wheels.

The biggest update is a power panoramic glass roof with a tilt function—previously an option, now standard. For a compact crossover, this is a significant upgrade: the cabin feels more spacious, and the XC40 starts to feel closer to Volvo's larger models.

The infotainment system has also been upgraded. It's now based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Cockpit platform, with Volvo claiming processing speeds more than doubled and graphics ten times faster. The central display interface takes cues from the EX30 and XC90, prioritizing speed and clarity over additional screens.

In Japan, the XC40 is appreciated for its size: compact enough for city driving without feeling like a budget "junior" crossover. This new special edition plays to those strengths by bundling all-wheel drive, a well-appointed cabin, premium audio, a modern interface, and a panoramic roof—all standard.

For buyers, it eliminates the worry of needing to add options to a base car. The XC40 Ultra B4 AWD Selection doesn't change the model's character, but it simplifies the decision: get Volvo's smallest SUV and receive almost the full package of features usually paid for separately.
