Dongfeng made its debut at Transpotec Logitec 2026 in Milan, and instead of focusing on passenger cars, it chose to highlight its commercial lineup. The Chinese brand showcased a range for business: the Captain van, the Z9 pickup, along with the Paladin and MHero II SUVs, which could qualify as N1 light commercial vehicles.

The star of the show is the Dongfeng Captain. It’s offered as a panel van or as a chassis cab for various body styles: cargo versions, minibus, or specialty vehicles. Multiple lengths and wheelbases are available, with either a single or double cab, and it can carry up to 2 tons. The van version has a cargo volume of 13.8 cubic meters, while the minibus can seat up to 15 passengers.

Under the hood, the Captain packs a 2.0-liter diesel making 136 hp and 350 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual. It rides on a rear leaf-spring suspension and has disc brakes all around. Kit includes LED headlights, air conditioning, cruise control, and a digital LCD instrument cluster.

The Dongfeng Z9 pickup is built for both work and off-road duty. It features a double cab with five seats, a length over 5.5 meters, four-wheel drive, and a 2.3-liter turbodiesel producing 190 hp and 500 Nm. Transmissions include a manual or automatic. Ground clearance is 240 mm, fording depth up to 80 cm, and there are 12 driving modes.

The SUVs also appeal to businesses. The Paladin comes with four-wheel drive, a 228-hp turbo gasoline engine, locking differentials, off-road modes, and modern ADAS. The MHero II Terrain plays in a different league: it’s a plug-in hybrid with 686 hp, an electric range of up to 110 km, and serious off-road capability.

Dongfeng isn’t entering Italy solely on price. The brand aims to cover multiple business needs: delivery, passenger transport, construction, service calls, and off-road work. For European buyers, the main question remains—not the paper specs, but service, warranty, and parts availability after the first few years of ownership.
