Mercedes-AMG is set to unveil the new GT 4-Door Coupe on May 20. The company has released a teaser featuring a camouflaged prototype that has been tested by engineers and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team driver Dorian Pin.

Pin, the 2025 F1 Academy champion, serves as a development driver for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. She was joined on the test by Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius, who rode in the passenger seat and explained the engineering concept. The video centers on whether the new AMG will earn the approval of a professional racer.

The real story here isn't the camouflage or the teaser—it's the technology. The new GT 4-Door Coupe rides on the AMG.EA platform and, for the first time from AMG, features axial-flux electric motors. These are more compact and lighter than conventional radial motors, directly benefiting power output, balance, and consistent lap performance.

Testing began on a simulator before moving to a real circuit, where engineers assessed agility, handling, and the ability to maintain high speed consistently. A key highlight is the AMG Race Engineer Control Unit, which allows the driver to adjust the car's response and traction control settings with immediate effect.

AMG aims to make the electric car not just fast on paper, but intuitive to control at speed. While many high-performance EVs have no trouble accelerating, the real challenges are weight, braking, battery temperature, and lap-to-lap consistency.

Mercedes-AMG hasn't yet released power, range, or pricing figures. However, the intended direction is clear: the new GT 4-Door Coupe is to become AMG's electric flagship for buyers who want more than just a quick 0-100 km/h time.
