Ford Ranger Wildtrak Hybrid Nearly Sold Out in Australia Amid Diesel Price Spike
Ford Australia has nearly sold out of the Ranger Wildtrak Hybrid after record diesel price hikes and discounts up to AUD 10,000. Demand for the PHEV pickup surges.
Ford Australia has nearly sold out its remaining stock of the current model-year Ranger Wildtrak Hybrid. According to Australian media, demand for the plug-in hybrid pickup surged after record diesel price hikes and substantial discounts across the Ranger Hybrid lineup.
In some parts of Australia, diesel prices have reached AUD 3.50 per liter ($2.49). Filling the Ranger's 80-liter tank could cost around AUD 280 ($199.16). Against this backdrop, Ford slashed prices on Ranger Hybrid versions by up to AUD 10,000 ($7,113). The Wildtrak Hybrid dropped from AUD 79,990 to AUD 70,000 ($49,791), both figures excluding on-road costs.
The pickup is powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack. Ford stated that buyers want to retain the Ranger's capabilities while cutting fuel costs through the PHEV system.
In April 2026, hybrid vehicle sales in Australia grew 27.1% year-over-year, PHEV sales surged 270.2%, and electric vehicle sales increased 157.2%. Despite a sales decline, the Ranger remained the market leader in the first four months of 2026. The updated Ranger Hybrid MY26.5 is expected to arrive in the third quarter of 2026. The Wildtrak Hybrid will return with the Ignite Orange color and the same AUD 70,000 price.
