Magna Wins Contract for Driver and Occupant Monitoring System
Magna has secured a contract to supply a driver and occupant monitoring system to a European automaker, integrating into the rearview mirror to meet safety regulations.
Magna has secured a contract to supply a driver and occupant monitoring system for an unnamed European automaker. The Canadian supplier describes the agreement as a significant expansion of its DMS/OMS technology presence across vehicle platforms.
The system is integrated into the rearview mirror. The camera, illumination and electronics sit behind the mirror glass rather than on the steering column or dashboard. This allows driver and cabin monitoring without adding visible hardware or cluttering the interior.
Magna will supply both the hardware and the DMS software. The system is designed for centralized computing architectures found in software-defined vehicles and can scale across different platforms and regions.
Magna Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting President Matteo Del Sorbo said driver monitoring is increasingly becoming part of the overall vehicle architecture rather than a standalone function. Demand is growing due to stricter safety requirements, including Europe's General Safety Regulation. For new cars, such systems could become a standard feature among electronic driving aids.
