Skoda Octavia to Receive Two New Hybrid Powertrains

Skoda Octavia to receive two new hybrid powertrains: full hybrid (136/170 hp) and plug-in hybrid with 100+ km electric range. Diesel still available. Launch 2026.

Skoda technical director Johannes Neft confirmed that the Octavia will receive two new hybrid powertrains: a full hybrid and a plug-in hybrid.

The full hybrid system from the Volkswagen Group combines a 1.5 TSI evo2 gasoline engine, an electric motor, a 1.6 kWh battery, and a seven-speed automatic. It will be offered in two outputs—136 and 170 hp. The electric motor handles low-speed driving, while the gasoline engine kicks in under heavier load. This unit is set to arrive on the Volkswagen Golf and T-Roc in the fourth quarter of 2026, and later on the Octavia.

As for the plug-in hybrid, it will likely borrow technology from the Golf eHybrid: a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a 19.7 kWh battery. Electric-only range is expected to exceed 100 km on the WLTP cycle.

The diesel option isn't going away. Skoda will retain the 2.0 TDI for customers who want it. An all-electric Octavia is possible down the road, but a production debut is unlikely before the end of the decade. Overall, the Octavia will continue to offer a broad range of powertrains among new cars in 2026 and beyond.
