The French publication L’Argus put the Alpine A390 GT through a 2500 km test. The brand’s first sporty SUV was evaluated on family trips, highways, city streets, and winding roads.

Currently, the A390 is available in GT trim with 401 hp. The more powerful GTS variant, producing 470 hp, is delayed due to battery supply issues. The GT features three electric motors, an LG battery with 89 kWh capacity, and weighs 2124 kg.

Despite the weight, the car earned high marks for handling. The steering is quick, the chassis precise, and stability is good. That said, the electronics are conservatively tuned: even in Track mode, the car quickly curbs any attempt at oversteer.

Practicality raises some concerns. The low roofline and thick pillars make rear access less convenient, and the sense of spaciousness is limited. However, the trunk offers 532 liters, enough for a family trip.

The main downside is consumption. On secondary roads and in the city, it averaged 21.8 kWh per 100 km, giving a real-world range of about 408 km. On the highway at 130 km/h, consumption rose to 27.1 kWh per 100 km, meaning roughly 230 km between fast charges. Charging from 20 to 80% takes about 27 minutes.

Priced from €67,500, the A390 GT also lacks a Head-Up Display, rear-wheel steering, adaptive suspension, and a panoramic roof. Among EVs for both city and long-distance driving, the model stands out for its character but falls short on efficiency compared to some rivals.
