Chinese luxury brand Hongqi is gearing up to launch the HS3 compact crossover in Italy. Sales are set to begin in September 2026, with EMC Auto acting as the exclusive distributor.

The HS3 comes from Hongqi, part of the FAW Group. For Italy, this marks an early stage in the brand's introduction, so the model chosen is straightforward: a compact SUV with a modern cabin, a turbocharged gasoline engine, and a price point designed to appeal to European crossover buyers.

Dimensions measure 4655 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2770 mm. Those numbers put the HS3 close to family-sized crossovers, but its exterior styling leans into premium territory with clean lines, a wide stance, and a restrained look that avoids overly aggressive details.

Under the hood sits a 1.5-liter TGDI gasoline engine producing 169 hp and 258 Nm of torque. It mates to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain isn't aimed at performance driving; rather, it's tuned for relaxed everyday use—city commutes, highway cruising, moderate distances, and reasonable fuel economy.

Inside, the cabin revolves around a digital cockpit. Highlights include a 12.6-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Hongqi promises a full roster of amenities, including driver-assistance and active safety systems.

Pricing starts at 34,900 euros (roughly $41,000 or 2.91 million rubles). For Hongqi, the biggest challenge in Italy isn't about power—it's about trust. Buyers need to be convinced that Chinese premium is no longer a novelty but a genuine alternative to established brands.
