The Jaecoo 5 Hybrid has already been spotted in Brazil ahead of its official sales launch. The first cars were seen on a car carrier in São Paulo, with the model's dealership launch scheduled for July. For Omoda & Jaecoo, this is an important new model: the crossover is expected to become the brand's most affordable vehicle in the country.

Preliminary information suggests the Jaecoo 5 will be offered in two versions. Expected pricing ranges from 150,000 to 160,000 reais, or roughly $26,500 to $28,300. That puts it slightly below the Omoda 5, but it retains a full hybrid HEV powertrain.

The hardware is likely similar to the Omoda 5 HEV: a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with an electric motor. Combined output is 224 hp. The gasoline engine produces 135 hp, and the electric motor delivers 203 hp. At launch, the system will run on gasoline only, but a flex-fuel version for the Brazilian market is already in the works.

Falando de Carro

In terms of dimensions, the Jaecoo 5 fits into the highly popular compact SUV segment: length 4.38 m, width 1.86 m, height 1.65 m, wheelbase 2.62 m. Cargo capacity is rated at 480 liters, putting it on par with the Hyundai Creta. The design is more upright and restrained than the Omoda 5, with a clear attempt to evoke a “baby Land Rover.”

The official equipment list for Brazil hasn't been revealed yet. Based on international versions, expected features include 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, LED lighting, a panoramic roof, power-adjustable seats with ventilation and massage, a Sony audio system, a digital instrument cluster, and a suite of driver assists.

The strategy is clear: the Jaecoo 5 is set to take on the VW T-Cross and Jeep Renegade, but with something they don't offer in comparable trims—a full hybrid. In Brazil, where price and fuel economy are major factors, that could prove more compelling than a fancy badge.
