Toyota Recalls 82,000 Vehicles Due to 12.3-Inch Digital Display Glitch
Toyota recalls 82,000 vehicles in the US because the 12.3-inch instrument cluster may go blank, hiding warnings. Free software fix offered. Check your VIN.
Toyota has announced a recall of 82,000 vehicles in the US due to a potential glitch in the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. When the car starts, the driver display may go blank, preventing the driver from seeing important warnings and indicators.
The recall covers certain 2024–2025 model year vehicles: the Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Mirai, Lexus UX, and Lexus GX. Only versions with the 12.3-inch screen are affected. For example, the base Lexus UX comes with a smaller seven-inch display, so not all trims are included.
Because of the risk of the instrument cluster going dark, these models do not meet federal safety requirements. If the car cannot alert the driver to a malfunction or other critical parameter, it could increase the risk of an accident or injury.
Toyota plans to notify owners by the end of July. Dealers will install new software free of charge. Until they receive notification, owners can contact the Toyota Brand Engagement Center or check their vehicle using the VIN.
A similar issue occurred with Toyota before: last year the company recalled 591,000 vehicles due to 12.3-inch displays that could also go blank. For buyers researching which cars need recall checks, this case highlights the growing reliance of modern vehicles on software.
