Honda's global production declines in April 2026 as Japan sales rise

Honda's worldwide production fell 0.8% in April 2026, marking three straight months of decline. Japan sales rose 1.5%, but China production plunged. Read more.

Honda has released its global production, sales, and export figures for April 2026. The company reports worldwide output of 276,895 vehicles, a year-over-year drop of about 0.8%. This marks the third consecutive month of declining global production for Honda.

The biggest divergence is between Japan and overseas plants. In Japan, Honda built 58,762 cars, up 22.9% from a year earlier—the fifth straight month of growth. Outside Japan, however, production fell for the fourth consecutive month to 218,133 units, or 94.3% of the April 2025 level.

Regional results were mixed. North American output rose to 153,614 vehicles, a 5.9% year-over-year gain. U.S. production totaled 97,045 units, up 5.7%. In Asia, production slumped to 53,145 vehicles, just 67.9% of the April 2025 figure. China saw a particularly sharp decline: 28,842 cars versus 47,195 a year earlier.

On its home market, Honda posted its first sales growth in 13 months. Japan sales reached 45,744 units, up 1.5% year-over-year. New car registrations jumped 13.5% to 27,936, while mini-car sales fell 13% to 17,808.

Exports from Japan also returned to positive territory after one month of decline. In April, Honda shipped 9,852 vehicles abroad, an increase of 7.2% year-over-year. The main driver was Europe, where exports surged 72% to 6,293 units. In contrast, shipments to North America plummeted to just 473 cars.
