The Bronco upgrade Ford should have offered from day one

Ford reserved passive keyless entry for pricier Bronco trims for years. A new OEM kit finally lets every owner add it — for just under a grand.

For years, Ford kept this option behind a wall of expensive trim levels and packages. Now it's finally available as a standalone upgrade. The sixth-generation Ford Bronco is getting an OEM passive keyless entry kit that used to be reserved for top-tier versions of the SUV. Infotainment has decided to fix that injustice — for $979.95.

The system swaps your factory door handles for passive keyless entry-capable units — the exact same parts Ford installs at the factory. After installation, you can forget about the key fob: walk up, grab the handle, and the door unlocks. Press the button on the handle, and it locks. No fumbling in pockets, no juggling groceries with one hand while the other digs for keys.

Here's what matters: the kit uses factory components, identical to what Ford fits on the Bronco off the assembly line in select trims. No aftermarket guesswork. Installation requires no wiring modifications, and vehicle-specific programming is included in the price. The manufacturer rates the difficulty as a 2 out of 5 — even owners with minimal experience can handle it.

There's a catch. The feature works on the front doors and the swing gate with the spare tire, but not on the rear side doors of four-door Broncos. That said, factory-equipped versions have the same limitation, so you can't blame Infotainment for that one. It's a Ford restriction.

Bottom line? For Bronco owners who skimped on the top trim and have been reaching for their keys every single day since, this is the chance to get that premium-trim convenience without trading in the truck. A thousand bucks versus tens of thousands for a trim upgrade. The math practically does itself.
