Subaru's most reliable model of 2026 is a quiet surprise — and it makes total sense

Autoblog crowned an unexpected winner. It runs on tech Subaru has been polishing for years — and that's exactly the point.

The most reliable Subaru of 2026 isn’t the flagship and isn’t the latest debut. And that, frankly, is the biggest twist of the year. According to Autoblog, the crown went to the Subaru Crosstrek — a compact crossover that leans on hardware Subaru has been polishing for years.

The logic is simple. Subaru’s reputation isn’t just about all-wheel drive and boxer engines. It’s also about how long a given powertrain stays on production cars. Less brand-new tech under the hood — fewer teething troubles. That’s why mass-market models with long-running mechanicals topped the list, not the exotic stuff.

Among the most reliable Subarus, experts also named the Impreza and the Forester. The Crosstrek scored 85 out of 100 in the J. D. Power Quality & Reliability rating, the Impreza pulled 83 points, and the Forester landed at 81.

Under the Crosstrek’s hood sits a 2.5-liter boxer with 180 hp, with standard all-wheel drive. In the U.S. it starts at $26,995 before destination. The Impreza is a touch cheaper — from $26,595. The Forester is bigger and more practical, but it kicks off at $29,995.

Experts urge a more careful look at the electric Subaru Solterra. It’s the first generation of the brand’s electric crossover, and it simply doesn’t have the long ownership track record the gas models do. The same goes for the brand-new Trailseeker and Uncharted — real-world owner data on them is, for now, zero.

Earlier, it was reported that Subaru is expanding its electric lineup in Australia in response to new emissions rules.
