Ford Australia rules out Super Duty-style Everest, cites weak demand
Ford Australia chief Andrew Birkic said an uprated Everest in a Super Duty mold isn’t under consideration. He explained that the company directs investment only into programs with predictable returns, and demand for such a variant isn’t strong enough.
Even so, Ranger and Everest remain the brand’s pillars in Australia. In 2024, Ranger recorded 62,593 sales, equal to 62.5 percent of Ford’s national tally. Everest ranked second with 26,494 registrations, or 26.5 percent. Taken together, the pair accounts for nearly 90 percent of the company’s volume — a split that makes the call look pragmatic and squarely focused on where the market is most responsive.
Everest competes with body-on-frame SUVs including the Toyota Land Cruiser 250, Toyota Fortuner, Isuzu MU-X and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. Ranger, in turn, faces the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton.
Meanwhile, the Ranger Super Duty already shown in Australia brings a strengthened frame, more powerful brakes, revised suspension and towing functions, including Pro Trailer Backup Assist.
