Mitsubishi ends Mirage as Outlander Sport becomes new entry model

Mitsubishi has ended production of its two most affordable nameplates — the Mirage hatchback and the Mirage G4 sedan. After years on sale, both have been retired, clearing space in the lineup for the compact Outlander Sport crossover.

The latest Outlander Sport starts at $26,955, a clear step up from the Mirage’s $15,995 price point. That shift effectively raises Mitsubishi’s entry ticket and asks shoppers to consider a bigger spend than before.

To win back budget-focused buyers, the company is actively considering the return of a lower-cost front-wheel-drive version of the Outlander Sport. Such a move could trim roughly $1,500 from the price, sharpening the crossover’s appeal.

Even so, carving out an advantage won’t be straightforward in a segment already crowded with options. Chevrolet’s Trax ranges from $22,500 to $26,500, while Kia’s Seltos sits in a similar band, from $21,590 to $26,590. On paper, those figures leave the Outlander Sport working harder to justify its ask, particularly for shoppers who scrutinize the numbers before they set foot in a showroom.
