GMC just told Mexico to wait one more year — and it will be worth it

GMC just pulled a move Mexico has been waiting on for years. General Motors officially announced the next-generation GMC Sierra 1500 for the Mexican market — only days after the global premiere of the redesigned full-size pickup in the United States. The Mexican launch is slated for early 2027, after sales begin stateside.

The new Sierra 1500 looks bigger, meaner and noticeably more expensive than its predecessor. The lighting now packs signature welcome and farewell animations, a more vertical grille and optional quad exhaust outlets — everything you need to spot this truck from a mile away. The exterior shifts noticeably from trim to trim. The headline acts are the luxurious Denali Ultimate and the off-road-focused AT4X — the very pair GMC is leaning on as it calls this the most powerful, most advanced and most lavishly equipped generation in Sierra’s history.

“Denali Ultimate and AT4X solidify Sierra as the most powerful, most advanced and most luxurious trucks we’ve ever built. The next-generation Sierra is the truck all others will be measured against,” said Michael MacPhee, Global Vice President, Buick & GMC.

Under the hood, things get serious. A sixth generation of gasoline Small Block V8s arrives in two flavors — brand-new 5.7L and 6.6L engines — alongside the returning 2.7L turbocharged TurboMax and the 3.0L Duramax diesel. Every one of those four engines pairs with a 10-speed automatic. GMC is keeping horsepower and torque figures under wraps for now.

The cabin greets you with a storm of screens. A 16.3-inch center display with class-exclusive articulation and hidden storage, a 12.2-inch digital driver cluster, an optional 11.5-inch passenger screen, a 15-inch color head-up display and an 8.5-inch rear-camera mirror. On Denali Ultimate, the combined digital real estate tops 60 inches — a class record.

The Denali Ultimate flagship comes standard with the 6.6L V8, which GMC claims is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the full-size pickup segment. Add a 16-speaker Bose Premium audio system (with speakers tucked into the front headrests) and a three-year Super Cruise subscription. The hands-free system covers more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada — including while towing, something GMC says no rival offers.

The AT4X tells a completely different story. 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires (a Sierra first), Multimatic Jounce Control dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, a 2-inch suspension lift, an exclusive hood and a reworked front fascia. Inside — an exclusive Timber Mahogany trim, a sport flat-bottom steering wheel and a standard panoramic sunroof. For buyers who want even more, GMC will keep offering the AEV Edition package.

The full 2027 lineup spans six trims: Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, AT4X and Denali Ultimate. The familiar SLE and SLT did not survive the generational switch — their role now goes to Elevation.

For Mexico, the details remain hidden. Exact configurations, pricing and a launch date are still off the table. Local outlets report that GMC will announce country-specific trims and equipment later, with the commercial launch expected sometime in 2027. One thing is not changing: Mexican Sierra units will continue rolling off the GM plant in Silao.

Earlier, reports surfaced that GM has been granted a patent for a system that automatically exchanges data after a crash.
