Yasa celebrates 50,000th axial‑flux electric motor at Yarnton

British electric motor maker Yasa, part of Mercedes-Benz, has announced its 50,000th axial electric motor. The milestone unit rolled off the line at the company’s modernized Yarnton facility near Oxford. Opened in May 2025, the plant is capable of producing more than 25,000 motors a year. The figure is more than a neat round number; it signals a clear shift from niche innovation to steady series output.

Earlier, Yasa reported a record specific power: a 12.7‑kg prototype delivered a peak 750 kW on the test bench. The company specializes in axial‑flux motors, where the magnetic field is aligned with the axis of rotation, an arrangement that brings advantages in compact packaging and power density compared with traditional radial designs.

According to head of engineering Tim Woolmer, in 2010 Yasa produced about 20 motors a year, while in 2025, thanks to the new plant, output reached 20,000. The brand’s portfolio already includes solutions for high‑performance models, including the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, Lamborghini hybrids and a number of upcoming Mercedes‑AMG electric cars. The customer list hints at a technology tuned to performance‑led applications yet ready to scale as manufacturing accelerates.

Production growth

The ramp‑up of these units is also shaping the segment, helping define the field of top cars with advanced powertrains.
