Queensland lost the big game, so Suzuki built a Jimny in the colour of its broken hearts
Suzuki’s Queensland distributor turned a State of Origin loss into a maroon Jimny prototype. It tours seven dealers, and buyers vote on whether it goes into production.
Queensland just lost the deciding State of Origin match at home — and Suzuki turned that heartbreak into a car. The local distributor, Suzuki Auto Co, has revealed the Jimny Maroon Edition: a three-door off-roader wrapped in the colour of the state and its rugby league side.
Maroon isn’t just a paint choice in Queensland. It has been the state’s official colour since 2003, and the “Maroons” is the nickname of the team people here support as a family. So a maroon Jimny is a love letter to the home side, delivered right after a painful defeat.
For now it’s a single prototype. The base is a standard three-door Jimny with a four-speed automatic. The maroon wrap was applied at Brisbane studio The Wrap Boutique, with white racing stripes and special Maroon Edition badges added — the same logos appear inside the cabin. Late in July the car is due to gain leather seat trim with maroon stitching and piping from WFC Oz.
From 10 July to 5 September the Maroon Edition will tour seven Suzuki Auto Co dealerships. And here’s the twist: visitors can vote on whether the version should reach production. Queenslanders themselves will decide the car’s fate.
The price of a possible special edition hasn’t been named. For reference, a standard three-door Jimny auto in Queensland costs 40,990 Australian dollars — around 28,418 US dollars. The base Lite manual starts at 36,490 Australian dollars, roughly 25,299 dollars. Among the 2026 newcomers, this Jimny wins not on hardware but on character — and a rare, almost touching bond with its home state.
