OnStar Pet Emergency Service debuts in Brazil for Chevrolet owners
General Motors has officially launched the OnStar Pet Emergency Service in Brazil — the country’s first in-car assistance system for animals. Integrated into the OnStar telematics platform, the service is designed for Chevrolet owners who travel with their pets.
According to GM South America’s director of connected services Jaime Gila Toledo, the idea grew from the understanding that pets are part of the family and deserve the same protection as passengers. In the event of a crash or other hazardous situation, an OnStar operator connects the owner with a veterinary service, offers instructions, and stays on the line until help arrives.
Through the myChevrolet app, drivers can remotely manage the cabin climate, lock the doors, and track the vehicle in real time. This is especially useful when a pet must be left in the car briefly: the system helps maintain a comfortable temperature and safety.
The new service runs around the clock and is available to Protect & Connect subscribers on Chevrolet models equipped with OnStar, including the popular Tracker. According to associations, Brazil has roughly 160 million pets — one of the largest markets in the world.
GM’s focus on pet care highlights how technology is becoming part of everyday family life, turning the car into a place of comfort and protection rather than just a means of transport. It’s a practical evolution that aligns in-car tech with how people actually use their vehicles.
