Kia is scaling up its electric van gamble with the PV7
Kia will unveil the larger electric PV7 at IAA Transportation on September 14, with specs still under wraps and a 2027 market launch already on the roadmap.
Kia is about to raise the stakes in electric vans. On September 14, 2026, the company will stage the world premiere of the PV7 at IAA Transportation in Hanover. It will be the second purpose-built model in the PBV family after the PV5, only this time Kia is moving into a larger light-commercial segment.
There is still plenty of mystery around the PV7. The electric van is based on the E-GMP.S platform, but Kia has essentially revealed only its shape so far: a one-box body, contrasting black hood and pillar trim, plus the signature PBV lighting. What about the battery, range, payload and price? Kia is keeping those numbers to itself for now. IAA Transportation opens to the public from September 15 to 20, while September 14 is reserved for the press. Kia will also display several PV5 derivatives there to show how far the shared PBV architecture can stretch.
But the PV7 did not come out of nowhere. Kia showed the model's concept at IAA Transportation 2024, and now the project is moving close to production. Under Kia's plan, the PV7 is due to reach the market in 2027, followed by the even larger PV9 in 2029. First PV5, then PV7, then PV9 — in just a few years Kia wants to turn one production PBV into a full family of electric commercial vehicles.
And the numbers say this is no longer an experiment. By August 2026, global sales of the first PV5 had reached roughly 39,000 vehicles. At its investor day, Kia set an even bolder target: annual PBV-family sales of 232,000 vehicles by 2030, with Europe and Korea named as key markets. That makes the PV7 more than just another electric van. For Kia, it is the next big bet on the commercial-vehicle business.
