Xiaomi cut the price, then turned the N90 Max into a camper
The seven-seat N90 Max arrives 30,000 yuan cheaper, while the five-seat Explorer takes its old price and adds an integrated electric roof cabin.
Xiaomi has pulled off an unexpected pricing twist. The big hybrid SkyNomad N90 Max has barely reached the Chinese market, yet its price has already dropped sharply. In July, the seven-seat SUV opened for pre-orders at 299,900 yuan, but on September 7 the production model launched at 269,900 yuan. That is a hefty 30,000 yuan, or about 10%, less.
But Xiaomi did not stop there. The vacated 299,900-yuan price point immediately went to the N90 Max Explorer, a five-seat version that tries to turn the large SUV into something close to a mobile home. Its headline trick is an integrated electric pop-up roof. When raised, maximum interior height reaches 2.294 m, while the upper platform measures 2.11×0.985 m and can support up to 200 kg. Lighting, ventilation, USB-C charging and mosquito nets are all built in.
And this is not an ordinary roof box bolted onto a finished car. Xiaomi stresses that the lifting section is engineered into the vehicle itself. It comes with 19 protective functions, has undergone 10,000 opening-and-closing cycles, and the vehicle has also been tested in a rollover. There is one important restriction: the roof may only be raised while parked and away from public roads.
Under the unusual bodywork, the Explorer uses familiar N90 Max hardware. It combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine acting as a generator, two electric motors with a combined output of 310 kW, and a 76 kWh battery. Xiaomi claims up to 464 km of electric range on the CLTC cycle and as much as 1,705 km with a full tank and charged battery. Another eye-catching number: 15 minutes of fast charging can add up to 285 km of estimated range.
