The Onvo L80 changes its face but not the numbers that matter
Onvo gives the L80 a sharper Starlight package with Xinghan Blue paint and 21-inch wheels, while the 598-hp flagship and 615-km maximum range stay untouched.
Onvo has left the L80's hardware alone but made the large electric SUV look noticeably different. Nio's sub-brand has announced the Starlight design package with exclusive Xinghan Blue paint and 21-inch multi-spoke wheels. Around 150 display cars began arriving at Chinese showrooms on September 9, while sales start on September 11. One question remains: Onvo still has not said how much the new look will cost.
Under the fresh skin, there are no technical surprises. The rear-wheel-drive L80 still delivers 340 kW, while the all-wheel-drive version produces 440 kW, or roughly 462 and 598 hp respectively. They sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 and 4.5 seconds. The maximum CLTC range of 615 km belongs to the rear-drive versions, while the AWD model is rated for up to 570 km.
The L80 uses an 85 kWh battery and a 900-volt architecture. Battery cells for the model are listed from CATL and CALB, and in China the supplier's name has become a selling point in its own right. The current L80 costs 242,800–279,800 yuan. With the BaaS battery-subscription scheme, the vehicle itself costs 156,800–193,800 yuan.
The move makes sense for Onvo. Nio is focusing ever more heavily on its home market, while the group's more mainstream family brand needs fresh reasons to keep shoppers interested. September 11 should answer two questions at once: how much Starlight costs and whether Onvo will offer the package across all three L80 trims.
