The 666 hp Formula S is about to rewrite Fangchengbao’s playbook
On September 16, Fangchengbao launches the Formula S and S GT with up to 666 hp, 900 km CLTC range and a preorder price of 230,000–280,000 yuan.
Fangchengbao has built its lineup around SUVs, but on September 16 the rules change: the brand will put its first non-SUV passenger cars on sale. The electric Formula S and S GT will launch in Shanghai. The official account has already confirmed the presentation date and livestream, while the biggest question — final pricing — will be answered at the event. For now, preorders are open at 230,000–280,000 yuan.
There is almost no technical mystery left before launch. The Formula S stretches 5060 mm in length with a 2960 mm wheelbase. Rear-wheel-drive versions produce 245 or 300 kW — about 333 and 408 hp — while the dual-motor setup reaches 490 kW, or roughly 666 hp. Batteries with 76.7 and 92 kWh of capacity deliver 730 to 900 km under China’s CLTC cycle.
One technology makes the family stand out even among other powerful BYD EVs: the DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension. It can rapidly alter damping characteristics by exploiting the properties of the fluid inside the dampers. For Fangchengbao, this is its first passenger-car project after the off-road Bao and urban Tai lines. Back in spring, BYD presented Formula S as a three-model family: the Formula S sedan, the S GT shooting brake and the larger Formula SL.
The production-spec S and S GT have already been fully shown in Chengdu, where their interiors, powertrains and preliminary prices were revealed. But the September 10 announcement pushes the project into its next phase. The vague “launch in September” has been replaced by a firm date, after which final pricing and the version lineup will finally be clear.
And the timing hardly looks accidental. Fangchengbao delivered 41,568 vehicles in August, up 155.57% year over year and slightly above July’s 41,213 units. In other words, its first Formula S passenger cars are arriving just as the sub-brand has posted more than 40,000 monthly sales for a second consecutive month.
