BMW brings nine M machines to the Nürburgring's centenary party
Six BMW M cars and three M motorcycles get Nürburgring Green, Nordschleife graphics and a centenary theme, while M Ignite adds real engineering substance.
BMW is not waiting for the anniversary itself. For the Nürburgring's 100th birthday, the brand has assembled nine machines in the 100 Jahre Nürburgring series: the M2, M3 Sedan and Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan and Touring, plus the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R and M 1000 XR motorcycles. All of them wear historic Nürburgring Green and graphics tracing the Nordschleife. There is a catch, though: each of the three motorcycles is limited to just 100 examples worldwide, while BMW has not announced a separate production cap for the cars.
Yet the most interesting part is hiding beneath the green paint. The M2, M3 and M4 get the M Ignite system for the S58 inline-six. BMW's patented pre-chamber ignition improves efficiency under high load, reduces fuel consumption at the limit and helps the engine meet Euro 7 requirements without sacrificing power. And this technology was not created just for the anniversary edition: the M3 and M4 began receiving M Ignite in July 2026, followed by the M2 in August.
There is no need to wait until 2027 for most of the cars, either. The M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan and M5 Touring are available to order from September 2026. The M2 joins them in January 2027. The motorcycles remain the cliffhanger: BMW says ordering terms and timing will be announced separately.
The Nürburgring officially opened on June 18, 1927. Exactly a century later, the circuit will mark the milestone, with its main anniversary event scheduled for June 19–20, 2027. In other words, the celebration stretches across an entire weekend, and BMW clearly intends to arrive fully armed.
