Suzuki launches first biogas plant in Gujarat to power CNG vehicles

Suzuki Motor Corporation has opened its first biogas plant in India. The facility in Banaskantha district, Gujarat, can process up to 100 tons of cow dung per day and produce 1.5 tons of compressed biogas, with organic fertilizer as a by-product.

The project was carried out together with Suzuki R&D Center India and the National Dairy Development Board alongside Banas Dairy. According to the company’s estimates, the daily biogas output is equivalent to fuel for around 850 CNG vehicles covering 60 kilometers a day.

India’s Home Minister Amit Shah attended the opening, joined by government representatives and roughly 25,000 farmers. After the ceremony, the delegation toured the production site.

Company president Toshihiro Suzuki said the initiative is aimed at advancing a carbon-neutral approach while supporting rural communities. Efforts like this tend to nudge interest toward the most economical cars that run on alternative fuels—especially where CNG mobility is gaining ground—showing a practical route to cleaner transport that connects directly to everyday driving.
