Stellantis and Bolt partner on Level 4 autonomous fleets in Europe

Stellantis and Bolt have announced a partnership to develop and deploy Level 4 autonomous vehicles for urban mobility services. Trials are slated to begin across European countries in 2026, with series production targeted for 2029.

The project will rely on Stellantis AV-Ready Platforms, including eK0 and STLA Small. These architectures integrate sensors, computing systems, and component redundancy to meet safety requirements and help reduce operating costs for fleet operators—a clear signal that the hardware is being shaped not only for capability, but also for real-world service economics.

Bolt, which operates in more than 50 countries, aims to put up to 100,000 autonomous cars on its platform by 2035. The rollout will move in stages: from prototypes to pilot fleets and then broader scaling. It’s a deliberate path that tends to separate headlines from sustained deployment.

The companies are also working with European regulators on certification and market introduction. In projects of this scale, regulatory alignment often sets the tempo as much as engineering progress.

Stellantis notes that autonomous fleets can cut emissions and ease road congestion through route optimization. For mobility service users, such vehicles could complement the existing set of city EVs, expanding the range of cleaner options for getting around major urban centers.
