Mazda6e just erased the choice between long range and quick charging
The 2027 Mazda6e stretches to 560 km WLTP while cutting the 10–80% charge to 24 minutes. The old choice between range and speed is finally disappearing.
Here was the compromise that annoyed EV drivers for years: want more range, and you had to spend longer at the charger. Mazda has decided to break that formula. The previous Mazda6e Long Range could travel up to 552 km WLTP, but a 10–80% charge took 47 minutes. The 2027 Mazda6e changes the numbers dramatically: up to 560 km on a charge and just 24 minutes at a fast charger.
How did Mazda pull it off? It effectively retired the old two-battery strategy. The 2027 model uses a single 78 kWh LFP battery capable of accepting up to 200 kW DC. Mazda Motor Europe quotes consumption of 16.1 kWh/100 km and an electric motor rated at 190 kW, or 258 hp. The claimed 24-minute 10–80% session requires a DC charger rated at least 200 kW and an ambient temperature of 23–27 °C.
The scale of the change is clearest against the old Long Range. That version used an 80 kWh NCM battery, made 245 hp and was limited to 90 kW DC fast charging. Now the battery is 2 kWh smaller, yet range rises by 8 km, output gains 13 hp and the charging stop shrinks by 23 minutes. Nearly half.
The former base Mazda6e took the opposite approach. Its 68.8 kWh LFP battery delivered 479 km WLTP, but it could also charge from 10 to 80% in 24 minutes. Buyers were essentially forced to choose: an extra 73 km of range with the Long Range, or an almost twice-shorter charging stop with the base car. That choice is gone. The new powertrain combines both strengths and adds another 8 km to the maximum range.
Mazda did not stop at the battery. Engineers also retuned the suspension, steering and regenerative braking. Cruising & Traffic Support now operates at speeds up to 160 km/h, while the navigation system gains additional tools for locating charging stations and planning stops. The updated Mazda6e is due to reach European dealers from November 2026.
One big question remains: how good will those headline numbers look in winter and on a real motorway? A 200 kW peak alone does not tell the whole story. The charging curve, and how long a production Mazda6e can hold high power, will matter far more. Real-world tests will show whether Mazda has truly buried the old compromise.
