Genesis is moving closer to launching the G80 Hybrid, and fresh spy shots from South Korea effectively confirm the brand’s strategy: the hybrid sedan will come only in the Long Wheelbase configuration. In essence, Genesis aims to make the G80 more than a conventional executive four-door, with a clear emphasis on the rear cabin and a chauffeur-friendly driving format.
The clues are in the details usually reserved for more stately machines: the prototype shows electronic rear-door release buttons, an approach in the vein of the G90. The front doors still wear conventional handles, but that reads like an early-stage hardware blend rather than a final specification.
A key tell is the hybrid packaging. Under the floor ahead of the front passenger sits the battery, and that placement makes more sense on an LWB architecture: it helps preserve rear legroom and avoids compromising ride comfort. The prototype’s internal code points to the third-generation G80 with a hybrid drivetrain.
Expect a 2.5-liter turbo engine paired with a parallel-hybrid system and two electric motors, with output potentially reaching about 362 hp. The focus also extends to electric-only conveniences such as a parked mode that keeps climate control and infotainment running without the engine, plus V2L to power external devices. Taken together, these choices underscore a quiet-luxury brief that suits a long-wheelbase G80.
