Xpeng builds its one-millionth vehicle as VW-backed AI and 800V EVs power its European push
Xpeng has built its one-millionth vehicle, marking the milestone with an X9 electric minivan assembled at the company’s Guangzhou plant. Founded in 2014, the brand has sharply picked up speed over the past two years: the second 500,000 cars rolled off the line in just 14 months. For a relatively young automaker, reaching seven figures underscores how quickly its production machine has matured.
Today, Xpeng operates three factories in China and has a presence in 60 countries. The brand’s sales could surpass 400,000 electric cars this year. In Europe, it is active across 25 markets, including Germany, and continues to widen its footprint despite a dealer network that remains limited. The measured rollout hasn’t blunted momentum, which says a lot about demand and brand awareness.
A pivotal step has been its technology collaboration with Volkswagen. The German group owns 5 percent of Xpeng and became the first external customer for the VLA 2.0 AI platform. Trained on nearly 100 million real-world driving scenarios, the system is designed for use in vehicles, robotics, and autonomous solutions. That partnership reads as a vote of confidence in Xpeng’s software capabilities beyond its own lineup.
In Europe, Xpeng currently offers the G6 and G9, both built on an 800-volt architecture with fast charging of up to 525 kW. In 2026, the P7+ sedan will join the range as part of the brand’s 2026 new-vehicle strategy. The combination of high-voltage tech and that charge rate puts the spec sheet front and center, while a new sedan should add useful breadth to the lineup.
