HVO renewable diesel cuts fleet CO2 for Stellantis owners without replacing vehicles
As part of this project, the Citroën Berlingo and Fiat Ducato are traveling across Europe to showcase the advantages of HVO, a renewable fuel made from used vegetable oil and animal fats. The aim is straightforward: to give companies and private drivers a fast, effective way to significantly reduce full‑lifecycle CO₂ emissions without replacing their vehicles, since all Stellantis diesel models are fully compatible with this fuel. For fleet operators watching budgets and schedules, the prospect of decarbonization without vehicle replacement feels especially practical.
The HVO Aurora program, developed with the French company SP3H, which specializes in smart sensors for intelligent fuels, tracks and documents HVO use while assessing CO₂ emissions in real time. This demonstrates that a cleaner, validated fuel can power passenger cars and light commercial vehicles already on the road, without changing the fleet or the supporting infrastructure. For cautious operators, the availability of real‑time data tends to make the case more convincing.
All Stellantis passenger cars and light commercial vehicles currently on sale are already fully compatible with HVO diesel (fuel standard EN15940). Many Euro 5 and Euro 6 diesel vehicles now in operation can also use it without any modifications. That breadth of compatibility matters to businesses running mixed‑age fleets and to private owners looking for a straightforward switch.
