Worksport opens orders for Solis solar tonneau cover for the Rivian R1T
U.S.-based Worksport has opened orders for the Solis solar tonneau cover engineered specifically for the Rivian R1T electric pickup—a first-of-its-kind solution for this model. The rigid, three-panel cover can generate up to 250 watts of electricity in favorable conditions.
The cover itself doesn’t store energy, so the company offers an external power pack with an inverter. It uses a 1 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. According to Worksport, the solar panels can fully charge it in about four hours. The stored energy can power tools, household appliances, or camping equipment via standard outlets and USB ports—an arrangement that makes day-to-day tasks at a campsite or job site more straightforward.
The system was initially presented with higher figures, but the final specifications were scaled back. Worksport also produces similar covers for other pickups, including the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado. For the Rivian R1T, the cover starts at $1,999, and the external battery adds $949.
While the Rivian R1T can already supply power from its traction battery, an additional source can be valuable during extended trips far from charging infrastructure. The concept is likely to resonate not only with campers but also with small-business owners who need reliable off-grid electricity on the move.
