Toyota recall: 55,000 Camry and Corolla Cross hybrids over inverter risk
Toyota has announced a recall of about 55,000 hybrid vehicles in the United States, covering select 2025–2026 Camry models and the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid. For the current Camry Hybrid, the move is especially significant, since the U.S. lineup is now largely built around a hybrid powertrain.
The issue stems from a bolt inside the hybrid system’s inverter that may loosen. If that happens, the vehicle can lose propulsion, and the company notes that this could occur even at high speed.
There is also a potential fire risk if the defect isn’t addressed. Details are thinner than usual for now: the relevant U.S. regulator has yet to publish the official recall notice, but Toyota has acknowledged the nature of the defect and is preparing a fix.
Owners are expected to be notified by mid-February 2026, when an official repair procedure is ready. The remedy will be carried out at no cost, and at the time of the announcement there were no confirmed reports of fires, crashes, or injuries linked to this issue.
Given how briskly hybrids are selling, the scale stands out: over the first three quarters of the year, 234,369 Camry units and 24,594 Corolla Cross Hybrid units were sold in the U.S. The powertrains differ, too: the Camry Hybrid’s 2.5-liter setup produces up to 232 hp, while the Corolla Cross Hybrid’s 2.0-liter system is rated at 196 hp.
