Nissan updates NV200 Vanette in Japan ahead of 2026 phase-out

Nissan has announced a partial update for the compact van and minivan NV200 Vanette, which remains one of the brand’s most versatile models in the Japanese market. Even with production confirmed to end in the 2026 fiscal year, the company chose to refine the model, making this later-life iteration more convenient for everyday use.

Built since 2009, the NV200 Vanette is the fifth generation of the Vanette line. Unlike its cab-over predecessors, it adopts a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout, which brings its driving feel closer to a passenger car. In Japan, it is offered with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine paired with a CVT, while the all-wheel-drive version uses a traditional automatic. The key changes focus on equipment.

All trims now include a Forward Vehicle Start Notification system, automatic mirror folding when the doors are locked, and a comfort turn signal that flashes three times. On selected versions, mirrors with integrated turn indicators improve visibility during maneuvers.

The cabin has been revised as well: all seats receive antibacterial upholstery, and the front chairs now provide enhanced spinal support—particularly valuable in commercial use. For customers drawn to outdoor activities and customization, a new Outdoor Black Edition is available with a sand-beige body and black exterior accents.

The updated NV200 Vanette will go on sale on December 15, starting at 2.36 million yen. With a successor expected in 2027, this iteration stands out as one of Nissan’s most practical offerings for the 2026 market.

Nissan appears intent on giving the NV200 a fitting curtain call by bringing its features up to modern expectations. With its compact footprint and a seven-seat option that remains uncommon in the segment, the model still feels like a singular proposition. For buyers who need a straightforward, reliable vehicle for almost any task, this NV200 may well be the most sensible choice.
