Ford to restart Super Duty production in Oakville in 2026
Production of Ford’s Super Duty heavy-duty pickup lineup will resume in 2026 at the company’s upgraded facility in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
The plant had previously been slated to build a new generation of full-size, three-row electric vehicles, but that program was canceled amid weak consumer interest. Following a strategy reset, the company chose to redirect the site’s capacity to classic SUVs and pickups with internal-combustion powertrains—a pragmatic move given the current demand picture.
Modernization in Oakville is already underway: exterior construction is nearly complete, and preparation of the production halls is now in progress. Preliminary estimates call for the first Ford Super Duty units to roll off the line around the third quarter of 2026. The plant is being tooled for roughly 100,000 vehicles a year, with a significant share earmarked for export. The timeline looks tight but workable if commissioning stays on track.
At launch, the new Super Duty models will use proven gasoline and diesel powertrains. The manufacturer also signals a subsequent rollout of cleaner propulsion, specifically a shift to Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) hybrids, allowing the lineup to gradually reduce its carbon footprint and comply with tightening environmental standards. For heavy-duty pickups, that kind of range-extended setup can serve as a sensible bridge between today’s demands and the regulations ahead.
