Countryman SE now preorder-only in the U.S., no $7,500 EV credit
New Countryman SE cars in the U.S. are now available exclusively by customer preorder placed directly through an official brand representative.
This shift will sharply limit on‑lot availability, as buyers can no longer walk into a dealership and drive one home the same day. It curbs impulse purchases, narrows the pool of shoppers who wanted to try the EV before committing, and reduces the number of test drives and showroom demonstrations.
Customers also lose access to the $7,500 federal tax credit offered in the United States for electric vehicles. That incentive had meaningfully lowered the final purchase price and helped sustain interest in going electric.
From here, the Countryman SE’s prospects in America will rest on its own competitive strengths, without government subsidies or dealer-specific purchase terms. It’s a confident move that raises the bar for the car itself and leaves less room for casual, on-the-spot decisions.
