Hyundai recalls 2022–2024 Tucson over trailer wiring fire risk
Hyundai has once again issued a recall for the Tucson in the United States, and once again the trigger is a potential fire risk. This time the culprit isn’t the engine but the optional trailer wiring: 2022–2024 Tucsons whose harness and control module were installed at the port or by a dealer are covered. According to the regulator’s report, about 51,587 vehicles are affected. It’s an unflattering repeat for the model, especially since the problem traces back to an add-on rather than the powertrain.
The defect comes down to a control module that isn’t sealed well enough. Water can seep inside, causing electrical faults that may knock out the brake lights or the trailer’s lighting—an obvious safety concern. In rarer cases, a short circuit could lead to overheating, melting, and even a fire. Hyundai acknowledges three fire-related incidents tied to this issue, with no crashes or injuries reported.
The company says owners can continue to drive, but advises parking the vehicle outside and away from buildings until the repair is completed. The fix is straightforward: replace the module with an upgraded, better-protected version at no charge. Owner notifications are scheduled to begin in February 2026, and a VIN lookup is available ahead of time.
