Nissan unveils Armada Dune Patrol and Frontier Rapid Runner at SEMA 2025
At SEMA 2025, Nissan put on a proper spectacle, rolling out two off-road concepts: the Armada Dune Patrol and the Frontier Rapid Runner. Both clearly signal that the brand is ready to square up to the Ford Raptor and Jeep Gladiator, building machines meant for punishing terrain rather than show-floor posing.
Headlining the stand, the Dune Patrol starts with the Nissan Armada Pro-4X and goes heavy on hardware. It packs a CJD Racing suspension with 16 inches of travel, widened fenders, wheels pulled from a Nismo prototype, and 37-inch off-road tires. Steel bumpers, rock sliders, and a spare-tire mount add armor, while the 425-hp twin-turbo V6 stays as is. The spec reads like a true desert runner, with the kind of parts that usually survive long after the lights of a convention hall fade.
Meanwhile, the Frontier Rapid Runner—previously known as the Trailgater—leans into adventure sports. Built by the PowerNation TV team, it’s aimed squarely at kayakers, with Nismo rack systems, mounts for paddles and suits, and tube doors reminiscent of the Gladiator’s approach. Underneath, it borrows suspension bits from the Nissan Titan, adds a 2-inch lift, and wears a prototype snorkel. The result feels purpose-built rather than a generic parts-bin special.
Taken together, these concepts sketch a clear path for how Nissan could evolve its Nismo Off-Road lineup, turning show-floor ideas into tangible options for production models.
