Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 facelift spied in cold-weather testing
Mercedes-AMG has sent the GLE 53 for cold-weather trials near the Arctic Circle, and the main takeaway from these spy shots is a clear nod to another facelift rather than an all-new generation.
With camouflage limited to the outer edges of the body, the message is straightforward: the hood and overall proportions should remain, while the face and tail get the attention. The most telling cue is a fresh light signature; the headlights—and likely the taillamps—are poised to adopt star-shaped daytime running elements in line with Mercedes’ latest design language.
Up front, anticipate slightly reworked headlight internals, a tweaked central grille, and reshaped side intakes. The rear is harder to read through the snow, but the bumper and diffuser look set for revisions. The round exhaust finishers underscore that this is the 53 variant rather than a GLE 63.
On the technical side, major surprises aren’t expected: a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance should carry on, paired with a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Output currently sits at about 429 hp, so any changes are likely to be minor and targeted. A price uptick seems more plausible as the segment keeps edging upward; freshening a model before the next generation through design tweaks and equipment updates remains a sensible way to keep it relevant.
